Our Story

Married for over ten years, Oral and Allison Turner are a power couple that lives and works in the breadbasket parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. After three months of experimenting with household components, Oral and Allison produced their first atomized prototype of the Sorrel Harvesting Machine that successfully removed the red calyces flesh from the sorrel seed bud, which removed the most labor-intensive aspect of reaping sorrel.

In 2010 the basic prototype was introduced to the then Minister of Agriculture Roger Clarke (deceased) who led the way for the Turner’s by introducing them to the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) who assisted them in protecting the development of the machine. Allison pursued business training from the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurs which helped blossom a relationship with First Angels Jamaica which has since acted as venture capitalists and advisors.

Since the development of the invention, the Turner’s have been recognized for excellence and have been awarded 2015 The Gleaner Honour Award in Science & Technology for the invention and its potential impact on the sorrel industry. Other notable awards include the 2014 & 2016 winners of the National Innovation in Science & Technology Award in the category of Agriculture, Food & Agro-processing, recognition by The National Bakery Program ‘The Bold Ones 2016’ as one of the New Champions of Manufacturing, and received The 2019 Golden Award from The St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation Ltd.' The Best of St. Bess' for Dedication and Outstanding Service in the field of Innovati0n in Agriculture.

In January 2018 the Turner’s focus was to further develop the invention to make it commercially viable for small and large farmers. Field testing revealed unexpected challenges affecting yield loss and costing that they wanted to address.  With continued support from investors First Angels Jamaica they have now developed a solution that increases an even higher yield than the old methods used and is a less costly way to manufacture the machine enabling the company to offer even bigger savings to all sorrel farmers.

Turner has received global attention from sorrel farmers from some of the 23 subtropical countries around the world that grow sorrel as well as numerous inquiries from farmers in Jamaica all wanting to gain access to this long-awaited solution to the tedium of stripping sorrel for this fast-growing industry.

Dec 2023 sees the long-awaited launch of the first Sorrel De-seeder machines for sale.  We are currently selecting a few partners to join our pilot program that offers discounted rates.  Its full speed ahead in getting new machines to their first owners around the world.
